Teams

Share an address book and computers with colleagues, lock settings with a team policy, and install RFDesk on many computers with an enrolment key.

Create or join a team#

Sign in and open Teams in your account.

  • Create a team: you become its owner and can invite others.
  • To invite someone, open the team's members and enter their email address. No email is sent: the invitation appears for that account when they sign in, and you get a code you can pass on yourself. The code is shown only once, works once, and for 14 days.
  • Join with a code: paste a code someone in a team gave you.

There are three roles. The owner can do everything, including deleting the team. An admin can invite and remove members, and manage the team's devices and address book. A member can use the team's address book and devices. The owner can hand the team over to another member.

The address books#

A team has a shared address book of devices. Entries have a name, the RFDesk ID and notes, and can be sorted into folders and given tags. Passwords are never stored in it.

  • With Members can edit the address book off, only the owner and admins can add, change or remove entries and folders.
  • On the connect page the team's book is shown as Team address book, beside your own.
  • Your own address book has Recents, Favourites and My devices. It is kept in your browser only and is not synced.

Computers in a team#

  1. In RFDesk on the computer, sign in and choose Add this computer to my account. It can only be added from the computer itself, which is what proves it is yours.
  2. Open My devices and press Details on the computer.
  3. Under Team, choose the team.

In a team, its members see the computer in their own list, and the team's owner and admins can manage it: rename it, set its access rules and wake it. Leaving a team takes your computers out of it.

Team policies#

A policy is a set of rules that RFDesk on a computer has to follow. The owner and admins set it on the team's Policy page. It applies to every computer enrolled in the team, not to computers that only appear in the address book.

  • Each rule is Locked on, Locked off or Not set. A locked rule cannot be changed on the computer itself; a rule left as not set stays up to each computer.
  • What a visitor may do: mouse and keyboard control, file transfer, the file manager, the clipboard, sound, voice calls, remote printing, drawing on the screen, restart, privacy mode and recording.
  • Unattended access and sign-in: whether unattended access is possible at all, signed-in visitors only, and announcing recordings.
  • When a session ends: lock the computer, or turn its screen off.
  • Limits: end a session after a number of minutes without input (1 to 1440), and how many visitors can be connected at once (1 to 4).

Computers that are online get a saved policy at once, the others when they next come online. A session that is already running keeps what it started with, except that anything now forbidden is switched off. A team can make things stricter than the server's own rules, never looser.

Enrolment keys#

An enrolment key lets RFDesk join the team by itself when it is installed, so many computers can be set up without anyone signing in on each one. The owner and admins manage keys on the team's Enrolment keys page.

  1. Under Make a key, give the key a name.
  2. Optionally set after how many days it stops working, how many computers may use it, and the address-book folder that new computers are filed under.
  3. Press Make key and copy the key straight away. It is shown only once: the server keeps only a fingerprint of it.

Important

Anyone who has the key can add computers to the team, so keep it private. If it is lost, press Revoke and make another. Computers that already joined with it stay in the team.

The silent install command#

  1. Download the Windows installer from the download page.
  2. Make a key and copy the command that appears with it. It has this form, with the installer's version and your key filled in: RFDesk-Setup-<version>.exe /VERYSILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /NORESTART /TASKS="startup" /ENROLL=<key> /START=1
  3. Run the command as administrator in the folder that holds the installer, or hand it to your deployment tool. Nothing is shown on the screen while it installs.

RFDesk is installed, set to start in the background at Windows sign-in, and started straight away. The computer then joins the team by itself.

Note

A computer that is already linked to an account or to another team does not join. Running the command again on a computer that has joined changes nothing and does not use the key up.
