How to record
Recording is done by the person who connects, from the browser viewer on this website.
- Open Session tools in the toolbar.
- Under Record this session, press Record.
- A Recording badge shows for as long as you record. Press Stop to finish.
What ends up in the file
The recording is a video of the remote screen, with what you hear when the session has sound. Where the browser allows it, you choose where the file goes and it is written as you record. Otherwise the browser keeps the recording in memory until you stop.
Nobody is recorded in secret
The other device is told as soon as you start, and shows its user a notice for as long as you record. If the other device cannot be told, the recording does not start. That rule is built into the viewer and cannot be switched off from your side.
The other side decides whether it is allowed
RFDesk on the computer being reached has a Recording setting, so the person there decides whether visitors may record. A team can also lock recording off on its computers with a policy, or require that recordings are announced. When recording is not allowed, the viewer simply does not offer it.
Where the recording is kept
The file is saved on the device of the person who recorded. RFDesk does not upload it or keep a copy. Treat it as carefully as anything else that shows another person's screen.
Limits worth knowing
- The Windows app does not record. Use the browser viewer for a session you want to keep.
- When the browser has to hold the recording in memory, it is stopped and saved at 512 MB, so keep those recordings short.
- Some browsers cannot record at all. The viewer then says so.
