Privacy and your data

What RFDesk keeps about an account and its sessions, what stays on your own device, and how to download your data or delete your account.

What the server never sees#

  • The device password is not sent, and neither is anything it could be guessed from.
  • The screen, the keys and clicks, chat and files travel between the two devices, encrypted. RFDesk's own servers cannot read or alter a session.
  • A recording you make is saved on your own device.

What is kept with your account#

  • Your profile and your sign-ins.
  • The computers linked to your account. A linked computer reports its name, system, processor, memory and disk use, local addresses, network cards, who is signed in and its RFDesk version, about once a minute while RFDesk runs on it.
  • Your teams and their address-book entries.
  • Your session history: the sessions you started while signed in, and the notes you wrote on them. A note can be changed for 24 hours.
  • For a reported session, the people who run the server see which devices and accounts took part, when, and from which network addresses. They do not see the screen or anything that was typed.

A person who asks for help on a team's help page gives their name, what they wrote and their RFDesk ID to that team.

What stays on your own device#

  • The address book on the connect page is kept in your browser only. It is not synced, and passwords are never stored in it.
  • Preview pictures of devices you connect to are kept in the browser. Switch them off or use Clear previews under the address book.
  • Saved scripts of the support tools are kept in the browser only.
  • The identity of each device you connected to is remembered in the browser, so you can be warned if it changes.
  • On a computer that is being helped, RFDesk can keep a history of who connected and when. It can be switched off or cleared in the app's settings.

Download my data#

  1. Sign in and open your account.
  2. Go to Privacy at the bottom of the page.
  3. Press Download my data.

You get one file with everything RFDesk holds about the account: your profile, sign-ins, linked computers, teams, address-book entries and session history. Passwords and sign-in codes are not in it. The file is in JSON, a text format other programs can read.

Delete my account#

  1. If you want a copy of your data, download it first.
  2. On your account page, under Privacy, press Delete my account.
  3. Enter your password, and a two-step code if your account uses two-step sign-in.
  4. Tick the box that says you understand, and press Delete my account for good.

Important

This cannot be undone. Nobody, including RFDesk support, can bring the account back.

What is deleted: your profile, password, two-step sign-in and plan; teams you own alone, with their address books, policies and enrolment keys; your membership of other teams and invitations sent to you; the notes you wrote on sessions, and diagnostic files you sent.

What stays: your computers keep working with their RFDesk IDs, but are no longer linked to an account and lose their names, team and access rules. The record that sessions took place is kept, with your name, address and notes taken out of it.

Note

If you own a team that has other members, hand the team over to one of them or delete the team first.
